This is an excellent photo found on a blog on Wordpress. This photo is extremely effective in using depth, which makes the photo more entertaining than it would if everyone in the photo was in a line. Also, this photo effectively uses the rule of thirds, and the viewer's eye is drawn to the various soldiers in the photo. The use of colors is interesting in this photo as well, because of the uniformity of the colors, but also the contrast.
